I keep checking everyday. Generally Indus gives you higher rate, but charges RBI tax , so after tax, rate is marginally higher than transfast.But sometimes transfast is higher than indus. both deliver in 4-5 days.

Since i need to transfer a large amount of money to my NRE account in India, I tried to use a bank recommended nostro account. This bank in india has 4 or 5 nostro accounts in US namely Standard chartered, Deutche, SBI, Chase. I tried Standard chartered to transfer a sample $500 and found that they took $14 as fee and sent only $486 to my indian bank account. Please note that there was a $15 fee by my US bank for wire transfer. But that was transparent and they did sent $500 to nostro account ( Standard Chartered) I contacted all the three banks involved in this, and following were the responses 1)US bank where my account is available - very good response but they do not have any idea about the fees levied by Nostro account ( Standard Chartered) 2) Nostro account - was very difficult to get hold of.. Not at all a helping attitude and they told me that they cannot disclose any fee structure to client and will only disclose to the bank in india. 3) My bank account in India - first thing they do blame it on the sending bank. Basically due to ignorance. Then i contacted their NRI forex division and they told they will get this information after enquiry and get back Basically i was trying to find out the fee structure so that i know how much i will pay as fee when a 100K is transferred. Looking at the percentage of 14 out of 500 is too high and if it is a fixed amount somebody ( especially the bank in India who keeps Nostro account) should have the decency to disclose. Also another thing is the exchange rate, if 4 nostro accounts are available, they all will have a different fee structure and exchange rate. Qn.. Why can't there be some kind of transparency on this ? The best I have seen is with SBI, where they publish their exchange rate.. but heard their service is slow.. If anybody has a suggestion on who gives the best exchange rate from below list according to your experience, please share Standard chartered, Deutche, SBI, Chase. Thanks for your time..

I want to know how reliable is transfast and is it really safe and secure like xoom? Xoom does pretty good transfers within 24hrs and above 1000$ is free. So, will transfast also do really that fast transfer as it claims to be? and is it really free above 1000? i want to know if anyone tried transfast?

I tried it once.. worked well and i picked up the $25 amazon coupon too. hey were bale to make the transfer in 24 hrs nce i verified my account. No fee above 1000. Unfortunaterly, the next tiem i trid it, they rejected the transaction. I called them and followed up with a mail but they never responded back with the reason for rejection. Xoom and IndusInd are the best. I prefer IndusInd as their exchnage rate is better than Xoom, although Xoom gives a better user interface.

exchange rate with ICICI

Please never use ICICI bank they show good conversion rate on line and then hold on to the money after wire till the lowest possible rate can be given and then say their website is just an indicative rate they give you remittence less by one rupee or more than listed on their website.Even if you email their senior management they are slow to respond to and even with response dont do anything and you loose a lot of money in the exchange please do avoid using ICICI remit services

Yes never use ICICI Bank for any transfers. I once deposited a check with them drawn on my USA bank. The amount got debited the very next day but never showed up in my ICICI bank for about 10 days. Then I noticed they picked the worst exchange rate over this ten day period to credit my account. This bank borders on criminal activity. They also expire your online account and password and start charging you account maintenance fees since you have no idea what's in your account since you can't get to your account. They will draw down your account until there is no money left. If you request them to reset your account, they will send mail via the post office and it goes to my Indian address which takes me forever to get it. Then they want me to have my debit card number available. They make you to jump through all kinds of hoops just to have access to your account in the name of security. Their real intent is for you not to access your account.

ICICI are crooks

I had a similar experience. APparently there was a minimum NRE balance to maintain at Rs. 15,000 if you have the debit card and online access to account. My folks in India, because they were not told of the minimum requirement happened to withdraw money so the balance was around Rs. 14,000 or so. After about 3 or 4 years, the balance became zero and when we asked that's when they explained the minimum balance requirement. I cancelled the debit card and online access to avoid any future trouble, but the experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. And the "indicative exchange rate" thing is a scam as well. Avoid ICICI!!! As a first time user Xoom was great, they attempted to transfer to my account in India within 24hrs without any USA account verification. Of course the transfer failed because, I specified my ICICI NRE account as the recipient. Xoom got back to me saying RBI regulations prevent depositing into NRE account at a different back in India. Anyways, I am extremely impressed with Xoom, but am now looking at IndusInd as well, as they seem to offer a better exchange rate. But IndusInd requires USA account verification which I am now going thru.

Indus FastRemit is the way to go!

Simply IndusFastRemit is the best one. But even after 2-3 transactions there were still taking 5-6 days to remit the money. Other than that their exchange rate and Zero transaction fee are much more competitive than others.

Hi All, Don't use Axis Bank service for your money transfer to India. They promise good exchange rate than most of other services, and debit your US account almost immediately, money to your Indian a/c will reach after 5-6 working days. But remember that you get the least exchange rate that was prevailing during this time(5-6 days). Beware of this fraudsters. I suggest Indus fast remit or Trans-fast, you get fixed rate and money in 3-4 days in your Indian a/c.

IndusInd Fast remit is the best

I found that IndusInd fast remit offers the best remittance rate compared to others. They donot have any transaction fees too. They only charge the service tax which is mandatory by the Indian government rules. Their rates are locked so no worries of exchange rate fluctuations post transactions. They did take 3-4 days for account verification purposes but that is acceptable as most of the service providers do the same. Also for my first transaction they took almost a week for the money transfer but that was ok for me.

I've used almost all the above services for the past 10 years and XOOM is definitely not the best, they are good in that the money credits quickly and the exchange rate is locked but they don't offer the best exchange rate. These guys just put this so they get paid $25 everytime someone clicks the link they give. Don't get fooled!
